House Will Vote on H.R. 2382

On Wednesday, February 5, the House of Representatives will vote on H.R. 2382, the USPS Fairness Act. As our members are aware, H.R. 2382 would repeal the onerous mandate for the Postal Service to prefund its retiree healthcare benefits. This mandate, which no other federal agency or private company is forced to do is responsible for 100% of USPS's financial losses since 2013. By repealing it, Congress will be setting USPS on firmer financial footing.

The National Postal Mail Handlers Union, along with the three other postal unions, issued a joint letter to Representatives, urging them to vote in favor of H.R. 2382.

As the letter states, "Passage of HR 2382 is not an accounting gimmick – it would simply apply the same retiree health funding rules that apply to all other federal agencies and American enterprises. Nor would it 'do nothing' for our employer. It would dramatically reduce the agency’s financial losses, improve employee morale, and restore the confidence of the broader mailing industry."

NPMHU encourages its members to contact their Representative through the Capitol Hill Switch Board at 202-224-3121, requesting they vote yes on H.R. 2382.
