National Poll Shows Support for Funding for USPS

As the Postal Service faces the threat of running out of cash on hand by the end of the fiscal year, the American pubic has shown overwhelming support for the institution.

In a poll conducted by Hart Research Associates and North Star Opinion Research, over 94 percent of those surveyed found USPS to provide vital services, and 92 percent supported federal appropriations for the Postal Service in order to maintain operations through the COVID-19 pandemic. This support was seen by those associated with the Democrat and Republican parties, as well as indepents, and saw no significant differnce in support among race or geographical location.

Postmaster General Megan Brennan reported to the House Oversight & Reform Committee the COVID-19 pandemic is the cause of $13 billion in revenue losses, and the Postal Service can expect an additional $54.3 billion in losses over the next decade. If the Postal Service does not recieve finanial assistance in the form of appropriations in the next stimulus package, it is unclear if it will be able to meet its service demands.
