Unions Rally to Protest the Continuing Government Shutdown

The NPMHU, with more than thirty other labor unions rallied to protest the continuing shutdown and resulting furloughs that are financially hurting 800,000 federal employees and families.  The rally, hosted by the National Federation of Federal Employees began at AFL-CIO headquarters in Washington, D.C. and concluded with an energetic march to the White House after keynote speakers, including furloughed federal employees, Union Leaders, and Members of Congress.

Among the speakers were House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD), Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) and Sen Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Attendees were energized to hear from AFL-CIO President Rich Trumka and AFGE President J. David Cox to name a few. The rally concluded at the White House where marchers chanted in support of federal employees. “The message is simple,” said President Hogrogian, “Stop using federal employees as pawns, reopen the government today.” The NPMHU stands with our fellow federal union brothers and sisters.
